It doesn’t look like the social media war between a public affairs commentator, Jimmy Adekanle, a Nigerian man based in Canada and Betty Akeredolu
Jimmy is alleging that Mrs Akerdolu’s Breast Cancer Foundation, is nothing but a mirage and that she appropriates Ondo State’s funds meant for the development of the state, to herself through her Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, BRECAN, an organization he described as a phantom one.
Mrs Akeredolu a breast cancer survivor had in 1997, floated BRECAN with its major objective which is to provide support and improve the lives of many who have been either diagnosed with the deadly cancer or are survivors of it.
Adekanle also wondered why a first lady would stoop so low as to resort to insults on social media. “Have you ever seen Mrs Sanwo-Olu or Mrs Seyi Makinde hurling insults at Lagosians and Ibadan people on Facebook?” he asked rhetorically, adding that being called a mortuary attendant isn’t a shame as he gives out his earnings from it for the upliftment of his people.
Mrs Akeredolu had earlier called him a mortuary attendant, a title he gladly accepted saying it is better to be one than to dine with “criminals looting my state’s wealth.”
Adekanle concluded his recent salvo by saying, if one doesn’t want to be criticized then it is better one doesn’t occupy a public office as a public office is run with public funds.
Trouble between the two began when Adekanle pointed out that the first lady and her husband flouted the Presidential Task Force, PTF directives on COVID-19 behaviors. He said while she travelled from Imo State to Ondo with about 20 people on her entourage despite the interstate lockdown, her husband, the governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu went to Abuja, ostensibly to secure his second term ticket.
According to him, Mrs Akeredolu didn’t isolate herself when she returned but instead engaged in activities where she further ignored social distancing rules. He therefore concluded that it was a show of rascality on the part of the first couple.
Expectedly, this didn’t go down well with Mrs Akeredolu who accused him of peddling falsehood. She referred to him as a Human (Rice) activist, a mortuary attendant and a rapist who fled Nigeria to Canada for fear of being jailed. She went on to say that a jail term awaits him in Ondo on his return adding that he would never get the political appointment he was desperately seeking via criticism. She then questioned what he studied in school and where he graduated from and wondered if he was properly taught with the English language on how to speak and write properly as his grammar was nothing to write home about.
