A civil society group, Yoruba Aborigines Progressive Initiative, YAPI, has pledged its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should he announce his intention to run for a second term of four years.
This the group says is in line with its vision for good governance, having recognized the significant progress the Tinubu administration has made over the past 22 months.
The group says it has thoroughly evaluated the policies and initiatives implemented by the government pf the day, one of which is the removal of fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023. Although the announcement of its removal was met with apprehension, YAPI believes that the removal of subsidy was a step in the right direction.
Despite its clear support for Tinubu’s administration, the organization’s chairman, Prince Olushola Omomulerin, insists that the group was not created to serve any political agenda.
“We’ve been helping the government apprehend criminals. YAPI was not founded solely to support Tinubu,” Omomulerin explains, emphasizing that the organization’s primary focus has always been to improve security and contribute positively to the country.
“Tinubu is not even aware of our existence,” Omomulerin clarifies, underscoring the group’s independence from political circles.
Despite the rising cost of living in the country, Omomulerin remains steadfast in his support of the president.
“We’ve seen the progress of what he’s doing, and we support him. Nigeria is progressing,” he says confidently.
While acknowledging the challenges Nigerians face, he remains optimistic that things will get better.
“The prices are getting better. The issue with Nigerians is impatience. Trust the process, Rome was not built in a day.”
Omomulerin further emphasizes that the organization’s support for Tinubu’s administration is unwavering, highlighting the president’s efforts to move the country forward.
“Tinubu is doing well, and we support him. He deserves another term,” Omomulerin states resolutely.
“We are champions of a good government. Hence, we will support him as long as he continues to do what is right,” he adds.
A self-sponsored initiative, YAPI has been quietly but steadily working to contribute to the nation building through its interest in ’s security. Founded in 2013 and officially registered in October 2023, YAPI leans towards yearnings for justice, equity, and fairness.
With 7,500 members strong, YAPI is poised to become a notable player in the Nigerian security landscape. YAPI’s mission is focused on tightening the country’s security and supporting efforts to apprehend criminals.
According to Awonuga Olatunbosun, the spokesperson for YAPI, the organization’s formation was driven by a desire to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development. His words reflect a deep commitment to improving the nation through grassroots action and active support for the government’s efforts.
