With the 2019 general elections almost upon us, it became imperative to take a look at one of the many books that reflects the most important discussion in Nigeria today. Last year, November to be precise, RED media founders, Chude Jideonwo and Adebola Williams, both of who contributed in no small way, via their company, State Craft Inc., to sacking the immediate past government and establishing the Muhammadu Buhari led government, launched their book, ‘How to Win Elections in Africa: Parallels with Donald Trump’. The book explores not just the power of the electorate but also the elements that make an election happen. It chronicles the ideas and ideals imperative for Africans and friends of the continent to champion a new democratic endeavour through active citizenship. The book draws lessons from election victories in Nigeria and Ghana while also cataloging the duo’s experiences with media management, youth mobilisation and communication across key African regions that enables it to identify the opportunities and shortfalls of our democracies while also debating the roles and actions of key actors in democratic processes around the world.
