A 21-year-old wife allegedly stabbed her husband with a knife in an attempt to escape savage beating from the spouse after he reportedly trapped her in her kitchen. According to Daily Focus, the incident occurred in the wee hours of last Friday, around 1:30am at the couple’s residence at Unguwar Mai Kalwa, Naibawa, Quarters, Kumbotso local government area of Kano state.
The wife, Fatima Musa, a law student of Bayero University, Kano, and the husband, Saheed Hussaini, engaged in a bitter argument after suspecting him of interacting with other women. Sources said she saw messages on his phone indicating he was into relationship with other ladies.
It was gathered that the husband became so infuriated during the argument that he started beating Fatima profusely, forcing her to run into her kitchen and lock the door.
“Even as Fatima hid in the kitchen, her husband forced the door open and continued to hit her, kicking her in the stomach in the process despite knowing she is pregnant. In a desperate attempt to escape this brutality, Fatima grabbed an object which turned put to be a knife and stabbed the assailant with it,” a relation of the husband who declined to be named said.
He added that hussaini, who pulled out the knife from his body, also used it to stab his wife in her hand, head, thigh and around her genitals before she managed to run away. It was learnt that this was the fourth time that Hussain had physically assaulted his wife Fatima during their seven-month old marriage.
The pregnant Fatima, it was learnt is currently on hospital admission due to the injuries she sustained from her husband’s beating. A witness said Hussaini screamed for help which attracted the attention of neighbours who came to see what happened. He said they rushed to see the husband, Saheed Husaini holding on to his stomach while bleeding profusely.
Saheed Husaini, a staff of Federal University Gusau, was later rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH, by neighbors where he is receiving treatment.
A source said the marriage between Hussain and Fatima has been embroiled in crisis because the young woman never loved her husband but was forced into the union by her mother.
Reacting to the situation Kano Police Command, spokesman Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the incident. Mr Haruna, a deputy superintendent of police, said the bride has been arrested and transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, CID.
