Zainab Abdullahi, the new wife of Hameed Ali, the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, has finally opened up on her relationship with her ex, Zubairu Malami.

A few days ago, a letter purportedly written by a lawyer to Abdullahi had surfaced online, demanding a refund of the sum of N9 million spent on the new wife of Hameed Ali for the purchase of air tickets, house and shop rents, loan collected for her father and for opening a clothing business for her.

The money, according to a letter which Malamai’s lawyer wrote on May 22, was given as loans, investments and other materials collected by her during deceit, mischief and breach of trust relationship.

The ex-boyfriend’s lawyer, Sir. I.I. Wangida, in the letter addressed to her, said: “We have our clients’ instructions to demand from you and we hereby demand from you the immediate payment of N9,081,207.45 failure to heed to same shall leave us with no other option than to proceed with legal action to recover the said sum.”

According to the letter, Zainab had for over three years been in a relationship with the ex-boyfriend that invested the total sum in her life as a would-be wife. The lawyer said: “Our brief as disclosed to us is that for over three years you have been in a relationship with our client where he has invested so much in your life, future and business when you consistently promised to marry him, even though you knew deep down in your heart you were deceiving our client but you allowed him for all these years to continuously spent (sic) money and resources on you while he was in the believe (sic) that he was doing that to his future wife.

“Be that as it may, we have our client’s brief that you have decided to pick another man for yourself as husband and while our client congratulates you in your new home, we have our client instructions to disclose his displeasure over your reaction few days before your new marriage by taking an unnecessary fight with him thereby insulting him and calling him all kind of names and your claims that he calculates all you have collected from him both as loan, investment and trips ticket so you can pay him as you are no longer in his life affairs.”

But the bride has denied reports that she borrowed money from Mr Malami, adding that all the money he claimed to have spent on her were either unfounded or unsolicited. She also denied borrowing any money from him for her father as claimed.

On why she could not marry him, Mrs Ali said she had wanted to marry him but her parents, after a background check on his character, found him unsuitable.

However, Zubairu Malami has also distanced himself from demanding a refund of all the money spent on her during their estranged relationship. In a terse statement on Tuesday, the estranged boyfriend distanced himself from the publication, saying that the letter was not authorized by him.

The statement read: “I, Zubairu Dalhatu Malami, of No 224 Durumin Zungura, Kano State, do hereby notify the general public that the purported leaked letter circulated on Sahara Reporters and other news channels was not authorized by me to be published. Zainab Abdullahi Yahaya was my former fiancée who I intended to marry but that was not ordained by the Almighty Allah as she has married someone else. I, therefore, wish her a happy married life and Allah’s blessings.”
