The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Thursday came to the rescue of former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Joy Nunieh  to the state government house.

Dozens of policemen earlier today, circled the house of Nunieh in Port Harcourt who is scheduled to testify before a House of Reps panel today as part of the ongoing probe of NDDC.

“They (police officers) came here to my home since 4a.m., they have surrounded everywhere. I am inside my house, I can’t leave for Abuja where I am scheduled to appear today before the House of Representatives Investigative hearing on NDDC,” Ms Nunieh said.

Ms Nunieh said she has called the police commissioner in Port Harcourt over the development, but the commissioner said her office and her officials were not involved in it.

However, Wike arrived at her residence in the state on Thursday morning and ordered armed policemen on the ground out of the way. Wike questioned the policemen on who authorised the siege and when they claimed it was from the IGP, he beckoned on Ms Nunieh to come out from her house. He then proceeded to enter the house and was seen driving her off alongside his convoy.

Ms Nunieh and the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, recently engaged each other in war of words over corruption allegations in NDDC. She suspects that Mr Akpabio may have a hand in the police blockade of her private residence.
