The winner of the 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, Usman Ododo, has been sworn in as the Governor of the state.

Ododo, a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC, took his oath of office as the state Governor in Lokoja, the state capital on Saturday, January 27, following his November 11, 2023, victory.

He was announced winner of the election that took place in the state.

Ododo won with 446,237 votes, defeating his closest rival, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, who secured 259,052, while Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had 46,362 votes.

This is despite Independent Natuonal Electoral Commission, INEC, announcing that fresh elections will be conducted in some polling units in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of the state.

The Returning Officer for the Kogi State governorship election, Prof Johnson Urama disclosed this on Sunday evening of November 12.

“Ahmed Ododo of APC, having certified by the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Urama said.

However, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the election, Dino Melaye called on INEC to cancel the off-cycle election in the state.

He alleged that result sheets manifested even before the commencement of the accreditation of voters on the day of the election.
