The embattled Kano State Deputy Governor, Prof Hafiz Abubakar, on Sunday, announced his resignation from office, citing alleged persecution by his principal, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The deputy governor made the announcement in Kano, the state capital, to put to an end to the lingering speculations of his unconfirmed resignation.

Abubakar’s resignation came on the heels of hints that 31 members of the Kano State House of Assembly had already signed a notice for his removal from office, which they plan to deliberate upon on the floor of the house today (Monday). Abubakar said on Sunday that he resolved to tender his letter of resignation, after over two years of enduring immeasurable and unjustifiable humiliation, without reasons. He alleged that Ganduje persecuted and humiliated him because of his principled position on issues of government and the desires to keep the government on track.

There are indications that Abdullahi might dump the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party, to join his political godfather, former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is a presidential aspirant.
