While many are proud of the ex-singer for being a recipient of OBE, British Twitter was less-than-enamored. In fact, a sizeable proportion of them were vocally unhappy that the millionaire was honoured for simply having a fashion range.
Shortly after the ceremony, a Twitter account for The Royal Family posted to the micro-blogging site: ‘Victoria Beckham collected her #OBE from The Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace today, for services to the fashion industry.’
Instantly, critics hit back, with one in particular saying: “Contribution to fashion?! Biggest joke.”
Speaking emotively, another said: “My father has saved countless lives as a doctor but clearly that isn’t in the same league as ‘services to fashion’. Never got even a thanks.”
A third chimed in: “REALLY??? fashion warrants an OBE??? Ridiculous,” while another sniped: “38 years in the NHS and no recognition! A joke.”
Equally dismayed, another user wrote: “And she still can’t bloody smile.”
Thankfully, she did get some online support from her teenage son, Romeo.
“Mum, I love u so much and hope you have the best day ever!” he posted to Instagram. You are the most amazing mum and you are perfect In every way. I love how you make me laugh every day and whatever happens you always seem to be happy. I love you to the moon and back xx have the best day ever!!”.
