Despite being slammed with a 100 million naira defamation law suit over her tell-all memoir which her ex- husband, Maje Ayida claims contained defamatory words, Toke Makinwa has remained unfazed and has continued with the promotion of the book, ‘On Becoming’ with a London book tour which culminated yesterday in a sit down interview on BBC World where she talked extensively about the book and how it can help inspire other women.
Recall that Toke’s ex-husband had initially threatened her with legal actions for defamation of character in the memoir if she doesn’t retrieve the already-sold books and stop all forms of distribution, withdraw from circulation all copies of the book and take immediate steps to call in all copies of the book already distributed, to retract the published words and tender a full page unreserved apology to him in three national dailies
Toke had ignored the request and had proceeded with a book tour and signings in both Ghana and London, the later which had a huge turnout, ending with a television sit down on BBC World.
