Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate for the 2023 polls, has confirmed Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

There have been various speculations as to who would emerge as the running mate of Tinubu, as the choice of the party’s running mate will determine if APC will emerge as the winner of the 2023 general election.

The choice of Shettima ends all that speculation.

The vice presidential candidate will be unveiled to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the leader of the party in his hometown in Daura, Katsina State on Sunday.

Buhari has been in Daura since Friday for the Eid-el Kabir celebration.

Tinubu’s decision will come as a shock to some associations and individuals in the country who have been clamouring for a Muslim-Christian ticket.

Recall that Shettima played a lead role in the pre-presidential primaries campaign of Tinubu.

Shettima is the representative of Borno Central Senatorial District.

Born on the 2nd of September 1966 (age 55) in Maiduguri, Borno State. The former governor attended Lamisula Primary School in Maiduguri from 1972 to 1978.

Shettima attended Government Community Secondary School, Biu from 1978 to 1980 and was transferred to Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum, where he completed his secondary education in 1983.

He studied at the University of Maiduguri and earned a Degree (BSc) in Agricultural Economics in 1989. He obtained a master’s degree (MSc) in Agricultural Economics in 1991 at the University of Ibadan.

He won the Governorship election in 2011 under the platform of the now-defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP and was inaugurated on May 29, 2011. The former Governor was reelected in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Shettima then emerged as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, thereafter he became the winner of the Borno Central Senatorial District election in February 2019.

He is believed to be a supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari’s programmes and policies while he was governor of Borno.
