She is possibly the greatest tennis player of all time and certainly the most recognizable but Serena Williams hasn’t always had it good in the love department despite having dated a string of men.

From her brief dalliance with Canadian rapper, Drake to Hollywood film director, Brett Ratner to her former tennis coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, to a professional basketball player, an actor and Bulgarian tennis hunk, Grigor Dimitrov who went on to have a two year relationship with her once bitter rival, Maria Sharapova, causing her to declare that he has a black heart – love has eluded Serena.

Which is why when news of her engagement broke last week, many were taken aback, having been public before now with her previous relationship. The 35 year old managed to evade public scrutiny with her relationship with Alexis whom she dated for over a year and who proposed to her at the very same table where they first met in Rome and had lunch.
So who exactly is Alexis Ohanian, the man who has managed to sweep Serena off her feet?

He is a quiet 33 year old

He is 6ft 5ins, charismatic, handsome and vaguely stylish

He was born and raised an only child in New York by his father

His family were refugees from Armenia

His mother is German

He is attended the University of Virginia

He is the co-founder of Reddit, a social news website which today boasts of half a billion visitors every month, making him one of the most influential men in Silicon Valley.

A year after he started Reddit with friend Steve Huffman, it became a success, so much so that the company was sold for just $20m to the parent company of publishing behemoth, Condé Nast. He stayed on as a director  before leaving after a while.

Shortly after he left, he launched a few preposterously-named yet profitable start-ups, such as travel search engine, Hipmunk and social enterprise, Breadpig

He later returned to Reddit in 2014 as Chairman, helping to steer the site to the forefront of the online debate surrounding privacy and free speech, a crusade so successful, headline writers declared him ‘Mayor of the Internet’.

He is also an author with a best-selling book, Without Their Permission: How the 21st Century Will Be Made, Not Managed.

His net worth is estimated at be around $4.5m while that of his soon-to-be-wife is 33 times more than his, with an estimated net worth of $150m, making her the world’s highest paid female athlete.
