A former senator from Ogun state and businessman, Buruji Kashamu is dead, He died this evening of complications from COVID-19 at First Cardiologist Consultants in Lagos, the hospital of choice for the elite. He was aged 62.

Kashamu has added to the growing list of high profile Nigerians, who died at First Cardiology Hospital. Recall that late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, was treated for Coronavirus at the same hospital until he died in April. Also, former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, and Folashade Diya, the second wife of General Donaldson Oladipo Diya.

Buruji was said to have been on a life support machine for weeks at the hospital after slipping into a coma following Coronavirus complications.

Kashamu represented Ogun east in the eighth senate. He had a brush with the law over allegations of drug dealing while he was in the US. In 2015, there was a stand-off at his residence after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) attempted to arrest him for extradition to the US. He challenged the attempt to extradite in court until his death.
