Singer and designer, Ruggedman is out with a new single, ‘Is police your friend?’ and an accompanying video. The song which addresses the issue of police brutality and gross abuse to human rights as captured by the recent social media campaign under the hash-tag #EndSars, features Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus. The music video opens with Dolapo Badmus, who was the Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer stating the manner by which arrests can be carried out and other issues arising from police-citizen relationship. This is quickly followed with images of Ruggedman walking on the streets with his phone and getting stopped by members of the dreaded SARS group building up to his verses.
The music which samples a popular gyration classic tune matches up with the scenes quite well, attention was paid to the blend of costumes as the rapper wore a white top amidst police officers dressed in all black. While the first verse is dedicated to police brutality, he does well by capturing the state of the society on the alternate verse. The video also features cameos from comedian, Frank Donga, actress, Doris Simeon and Segun Awosanya (Segalink), a lead campaigner of the #EndSARS agitation. The video was directed by Dr. Nell for Rugged Records.
