Chijioke Ihunwo, chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, has scrubbed Nyesom Wike’s name off the administrative block of the council secretariat.

Wike, who is the minister of the federal capital territory and a former governor of Rivers, hails from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor LGA of the state.

His name was boldly engraved on the administrative building of the council secretariat.

The minister’s name has now been replaced with Obi Wali, a former politician and activist in the state, who died in 1993.

Ihunwo posted videos on X on Sunday, showing the process of erasing Wike’s name from the block.

The development follows the supremacy battle between Wike and Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.

Last week, Fubara swore in 23 newly elected LGA chairpersons. The Action Peoples Party, APP won 22 LGAs in the election, while the Action Alliance, AA claimed one council.

Fubara’s loyalists joined APP weeks before the election.

The build-up to the Rivers LGA election was marred by controversy and conflicting court rulings. Hours after the council chairpersons were sworn in, a raft of secretariats in the state were torched, vandalised or engulfed in chaos.

The All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vehemently opposed the conduct of the poll.
