Investigations into the rape, mutilation and murder of 8 year old girl, Victory Chikamso in Rivers state, by a University of Port Harcourt UNIPORT undergraduate, Ifeanyi Dike on August 18th, has taken a new twist as the Rivers state Commissioner for Police ordered the arrest of a Divisional Police Officer over the escape of Ifeanyi on August 19th.

Ifeanyi was arrested on Saturday, August 18th while trying to dispose of the body of the deceased whom he had raped, killed and cut off vital organs of her body for the purpose of using it for money rituals. He was immediately taken into custody at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt but on Sunday, he escaped from detention.

A police officer, Johnbosco Okoroeze, who was in charge of the detention when he fled has been dismissed and also charged to court on two counts of obstruction of justice and conspiracy. Investigations so far carried out by the police, shows that the arrested Divisional Police Officer had a long telephone conversation with the dismissed police officer just before the suspect escaped.

The police say the DPO has some explanations to make. Meanwhile Ifeanyi, the prime suspect is still at large but the man who allegedly sent him to kill and get body parts for rituals, has been arrested.
