As this year’s edition of Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA) pageant gets more exciting, organisers of the pageant, rated as Nigeria’s first upscale competition for cultured ladies, have announced plans to stage Moremi the musical. The first edition of the musical will be performed at the grand finale of the 2017 QMA Pageant on December 3 at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

A statement by the Ambassador of Móremí Àjàsorò’s legacy, Ms Ronke Ademiluyi, said that the musical, directed by Gbenga Yusuf who is also the producer of ‘Flower the musical’ and dance director of ‘Wakaa’ and ‘Saro the musical’, will also feature choreographer Victor Phullu.  As a dance instructor, Phullu has successfully managed eight seasons of Maltina Dance Hall competition.

Moremi the musical will use music to tell the story of Queen Moremi, a Princess from Offa who was married to Oranmiyan, the ruler of Ile Ife. Through an act of bravery, selflessness and love for her people, Moremi dared death to save her people. Expressing his profound admiration for the highly respected queen of Yoruba land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife stated; “Moremi Ajasoro exhibited an unrivalled heroism in fighting for liberty and dedicated her life to the liberation of mankind by sacrificing her only child to free the people of Oodua land from the invasion of some faceless terrorists, thousands of years ago”.

The Ooni further expressed the need to entrench an enduring legacy for Queen Moremi’s sacrifice, stating that, “Moremi remains an indelible new dawn of great awakening for the development of the Yoruba culture.  This mission is very close to my heart and touches my global re-enactment of the Yorùbá culture.”

The QMA beauty pageant is an initiative of the Royal Palace of the Ooni of Ife, in his efforts to further immortalise one of the greatest heroines of Yoruba land.  The QMA pageant showcases intelligent, culturally aware, strong and beautiful young ladies that exemplify the heroic attributes of Queen Moremi. The initiative also uses beauty to promote business ideas for economic growth and youth development among young ladies. Winner of this year’s edition will receive a cash prize of five million Naira to set up her own business; a brand new car; a wardrobe of designers’ outfits from leading fashion brands. She will also become a cultural ambassador to the Ooni of Ife.
