The Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Porsha Williams has filed for divorce from her husband, Simon Guobadia after just 15 months of marriage.
The filing was made in Georgia on February 22, just days after it became apparent that Guobadia was in danger of deportation as his request for U.S. citizenship was denied.
Guobadia first entered the U.S. from Nigeria in 1985 and is accused of credit card fraud and identity fraud, among others.Their relationship was controversial from the start, with Williams exiting the Bravo franchise after announcing their engagement. This was just a month after they began dating. At the time, Guobadia was still legally married to Falynn Pina, who joined the show in Season 13 as a friend of Williams. Williams insisted their friendship was only for the show.

Despite Guobadia’s immigration issues, a source revealed that the divorce is reportedly unrelated to recent allegations involving Simon’s past, and the cause of their split is an ongoing matter.

42-year-old Williams and 59-year-old Guobadia wed in November 2022 in Nigeria’s native law and custom followed by a lavish American ceremony in Atlanta at the 4 seasons in Atlanta in front of 250 guests. The bride changed into seven dazzling outfits during the ceremonies.

Porsha has a 4-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. She used to be engaged to a certain Dennis Mckenly, an African American with is the father of her daughter but ended things with him, perhaps for not being such a lavish spender like some of the African men she had dated in the past.

She was once involved with oil baron, Jide Omokare who has since gone into oblivion following his fraud case with anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. At another time, she was involved with Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the son of a onetime president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Simon on the other hand is a father of five older children. Christian, Nicole, Benjamin, Quentin and Ximena from two of his previous three marriages. His first marriage was with Karron English and it lasted 20 years. The second marriage was with Connie Andrade-Rivera. His last marriage to a much younger lady, Falynn Guobadia which was contracted in 2019 and ended in 2021, didn’t produce any child.

From Benin in Edo State, Guobadia is the CEO of Simcol Petroleum Limited Company and a relation of Aisha Guobadia, a former gold merchant and one of the socialites that bestrode the social circuit like a colossus in the 90s before she went to jail in the United Kingdom for some years. She returned in early 2000 to continue her dominance which had by now waned a bit.

Simon who graduated from Columbia University, lives in Georgia. He was recently denied US citizenship due to his criminal past which involves numerous felonies for bank fraud, credit card fraud, identity fraud, and more.

He first arrived the U.S. on August 11, 1982, and overstayed his visitor visa. In 1985, his citizenship application was denied, and he was declared deportable, so he voluntarily left the States on December 28, 1985. He reentered in June 1986 and again overstayed his 6-month visitor visa.

In September 1987, Guobadia was arrested for bank and credit card fraud and pleaded guilty to the felony. Guobadia was again arrested in January 1989 for unauthorized use of a vehicle and arrested once more in May 1990 for fraud. In January 1991, Guobadia committed another felony offense for credit card fraud and in April 1991, an immigration judge ordered him to be deported. On March 4, 1992, Guobadia was deported and physically removed from the States.

Before his deportation, on October 24, 1988, Guobadia was accused of using a different identity to seek temporary resident status under the Social Agricultural Worker (SAW) program. Despite omitting his criminal past and misrepresenting himself on the application, it was approved and he received a registration card as a temporary resident on July 25, 1991.

After a waiting period, Guobadia became a permanent resident on April 27, 1992 — 26 days after he had been deported under his other undisclosed identity. According to the documents, Guobadia applied for naturalization under a second identity on December 22, 2016, but was denied due to his temporary resident status being unlawfully granted.

On December 31, 2020, he filed another application and was denied U.S. citizenship again due to him not being lawfully admitted for permanent residence. On October 24, 2022, Guobadia requested a hearing, and his denial was reaffirmed on November 15, 2022. On March 13, 2023, Guobadia filed an instant complaint, asking the Court to vacate the denial and grant him citizenship.

However, on January 11, 2024, United States District Judge Steve C. Jones ordered that Guobadia’s case seeking naturalization be dismissed.
