Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State has reportedly fled Nigeria.

Adebutu whose father is Kessington Adebutu, a wealthy business mogul and promoter of popular gambling company, Premier Lotto Limited aka Baba Ijebu, claims he had to go into hiding after an alleged threat to his life.

He is however yet to reveal his exact location although it is outside the country.

Adebutu claims he had to flee for his life after Department of State Security, DSS, withdrew its officers attached to him and the police force reduced the number of its officers attached to him.

Adebutu filed a petition before the state’s Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to challenge governor Dapo Abiodun’s declaration as winner of the gubernatorial election.

He alleged over-voting and violation of the Electoral Act. He also said the number of cancelled votes was higher than the margin with which Mr Abiodun beat him.

Adebutu polled 262, 383 votes in the election won by Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 276, 298 votes.

Adebutu claimed that since approaching the tribunal, he has been subtly threatened to withdraw the petition.

He claims to be in possession of credible intelligence to buttress an attempt on his life.

About a month ago, Adebutu, had raised the alarm that he might be killed in the pursuit of his case at the election petition tribunal.

“I’ve been warned that I should mind myself wherever I go, that I should not go to crowded areas because, maybe one day I will be killed.

“The truth of the matter is that it is a PDP mandate. I don’t pray to die, but it is a PDP mandate and it is the people’s mandate. I am sure it will be easy to reclaim even if they kill me.

“We are determined; if they want to kill us, it’s okay. They brought killers from Lagos to attack our candidate in Sagamu 2. Luckily, the man escaped through the balcony.

“They want to compel you to start hiding at home. I am not going to do that. I’m going to go everywhere,” he had said.
