The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to immediately track down and apprehend the gunmen that attacked the home of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke, Bayelsa State. It made the demand as it condemned the attack in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.

The PDP described the attack on the former President’s home as extremely disturbing, stressing that an extensive investigation must be carried out into the incident.
“Our party insists that the gun attack is a direct threat to the life and safety of the former President and members of his family and as such the assailants must be tracked down,” the party said.

It commiserated with the families of the soldier killed in the attack and urged the security agencies to go after the assailants. The PDP also asked the security agencies to rescue those reportedly abducted during the attack.

Likewise the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC have demanded a probe of the attack on the former president’s country home in Otuoke. In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC condemned the attack and urged security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and their sponsors.

Issa-Onilu said: “Following reports that gunmen attacked the country home of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, APC demands from security and intelligence agencies a swift, sweeping and thorough probe of the shocking incident.

“The APC joins other well-meaning Nigerians in condemning the attack in its entirety. We call on security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and their sponsors. We extend condolences to the family of the soldier who reportedly died in the attack. The Party also wishes the other injured soldier a full and speedy recovery,” he said.

A bunch of gunmen today, attacked the country home of the former president. The attack, which occurred around 2:00am, came after Jonathan decided to move to his Yenagoa home at about 12:00am. According to sources, the two soldiers stationed behind the house confronted the armed men upon sighting them.

“The gunmen were approaching the house when they were sighted by the soldiers. The gunmen calculated wrongly when they went for the military gunboat but it was not mounted. The soldiers while engaging the gunmen at the back of the house were not aware that some of the hoodlums were coming into the house on land. Those gunmen on foot shot dead a soldier and shot another in the leg.

“They escaped after sighting reinforcement for the soldiers. The hoodlums abandoned a boat filled with blood. We asked an eyewitness at the jetty and we were told that the gunmen were moving some bodies of their colleague into another boat.”
