Despite not having a host along with the many embarrassing controversies that has trailed the award ceremony since last year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, organizers of the Oscars, cinema’s biggest award ceremony, attempted to retool the ceremony. Naturally, there were multiple hosts, attempts were made to shorten the length of time of the ceremony by cutting off some awards. For this reason, no award was presented during the commercials. Winners’ mics were rapidly cut off if they weren’t brief and to the point in their acknowledgment speeches. The show ended up lasting for three hours. Also, there were some wry attempts to add more crowd-pleasing elements. All in all, the awards ceremony happened and served its purpose.
