Baring all unforeseeable circumstances, Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet will likely be made a commissioner in Ondo State once the State’s House of Assembly okays the list of commissioners sent to the House for ratification. What makes the case of Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet a peculiar one is the fact that she was a two term lawmaker at the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi/Isolo constituency II at the Lagos House State House of Assembly before the current political dispensation. A pastor and former teacher, Omowunmi has been fortunate enough to have enjoyed political office since 2007. In 1999, the 44 year old made an attempt at politics when she contested for a councillorship position under the All Peoples Party, APP, but lost at the primaries. She then came back again in 2002 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, and was kicked out. In 2003, she summoned courage to contest for the state House of Assembly, but ended up being compensated with membership of a board for four years. Then in 2007 she contested again to be in the State House of Assembly and won. And ever since then, she has enjoyed political office up until 2015 when a new house was inaugurated and she bowed out after two terms. Now Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet who is originally from Ondo State has her name penciled down as a commissioner. However, the inclusion of her name has sparked off ill talks and political angst within the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress since it became public knowledge.
