Controversial monarch, Oluwo of Iwo kingdom Oba Adbdulrasheed Akanbi is set to give love another chance as he begins moves to marry a princess from Kano emirate, from Ade Bayero dynasty to be precise.
In a letter exclusively obtained by The Street Journal and addressed to the Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, the Oluwo intimated the governor of his decision to remarry while also seeking financial assistance from the state government to the tune of 20 million naira and above.
No date was stated for when this supposed ‘grand’ wedding will take place neither did the monarch reveal the venue of the wedding.
“I have the instruction of his imperial majesty, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, to notify you of his decision to marry a princess from Kano Emirate, to be precise, the Ado Bayero Dynasty,” the letter began.
“I wish to remind your excellency that this kind of Royal wedding between two notable traditional institutions in Nigeria will require huge expenses which necessitates support from the state government financially even logistically.
“Moreover, the estimated amount for the event is above 20 million naira.
“His excellency, Oba Akanbi relies on you for necessary consideration and approval on this request.”
Perhaps the need to want to expend such huge amount on his wedding may not be unconnected to how he was unable to hold a grand wedding ceremony with his first wife off almost 20 years as well as with his second wife, Jamaican born Chanel Chin who he abandoned his first wife for.
The Oluwo was unable to perform any marital rites on her as custom and tradition demands and also did not have the financial capability to host dignitaries and VIPs to a grand wedding.
Recall that the controversy seeking monarch ended his marriage with Chanel in 2019 via a press statement posted on his social media handle.
The wedding ended over allegations of maltreatment, infidelity and inability of the Oluwo to properly care for his wife and the son that resulted from the marriage.
And since then there has been no queen in the palace.
However, the Press Secretary to the Oluwo, Alli Ibraheem, gas denied knowledge of the letter. He insists that the Palace did not author the said letter.
“We didn’t author any letter. The front of the letter you saw is not the one we use for letters by Oluwo. Moreso, if Baba will write government, it will carry his signature,” he said.
