Ogun monarch withdraws chieftaincy title of ex Imo governor, Okorocha

Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi, the Eselu of Iselu, has withdrawn the proposed installation of Senator Rochas Okorocha, as Otunba Asoludero of Iselu, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Oba Akinyemi in a copy of a letter addressed to the former governor of Imo State, did not however disclose in specific terms why the title was being withdrawn.

The monarch stated that the withdrawal and the cancellation of the installation ceremony were not done out of hatred for Okorocha, but was done in the interest of peace and harmony.

The installation based on Okorocha’s acceptance letter for the title was earlier fixed for September 19.

Oba Akinyemi urged the lawmaker to accept the development as “an act of God.”

Reporting, Tribune said the traditional ruler advised Okorocha to keep assisting the needy through his foundation and also not hesitate to help in developing Iselu community and Nigeria in general.

The letter reads partly, “Your Excellency, please recall that I, Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, informed Your Excellency (via a letter dated 1st July 2021) that Eselu-in-Council found you worthy and consequently appointed you as Otunba Asoludero of Iselu Kingdom.

“Some days after the Offer of Appointment, Your Excellency forwarded your Acceptance Letter to me. Thereafter, Your Excellency and I agreed that your installation as Otunba Asoludero of Iselu Kingdom should hold on Sunday, 19th September 2021.

“Senator Sir, I must state that my decision to withdraw the Chieftaincy Title offered you is not premised on any hatred for you, but is done in the interest of peace and harmony. For the records,

“I want to declare to Your Excellency that Eselu-in-Council and the good people of Iselu Kingdom still and will continue to love you and other well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad. Your Excellency should note that the doors of my Palace will continue to remain open to you and other patriotic Nigerians at all times for the progress of my community and Nigeria in general.

“Sir, it is my belief that what tomorrow will be, will be determined by the future. Therefore, I appeal that you should see this development as an act of God and I pray to the Almighty God to continue to be with you in your political career and all your endeavours.”
