Former President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo has congratulated the deposed Emir of Kano State, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on his removal by the Kano State government led by Abdullahi Ganduje. In a one page letter, the former president referred to the deposed Emir as his Royal Highness and his brother.

Obasanjo in the letter said he was sad when he heard about his removal by the executive council of the Kano State government but ironically referred to his being deposed as good news. Explaining what he means by his being deposed as being both good and sad news, the 83 year old  said, his removal was undeserving but at the same a good thing having paid the ultimate price.

Obasanjo went on to say that he prays that God gives him the strength and courage to continue in the path he chose for himself which he says is for the best interest of the country and humanity.

Sanusi has been one northerner who has been quite vocal about the array of social problems bedeviling northern Nigerian. He has on several occasion spoken against the negative effect of the Almajiri system as well as the increased rate of poverty in Northern Nigeria.

Obasanjo concluded the letter with assurances of his highest consideration.
