Trinidad-born rapper, Onika Tanya Maraj, more popularly known as Nicki Minaj has officially announced her marriage to music industry professional, Kenneth Petty who is also her childhood boyfriend. The award-winning singer took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to break news of the union to her nearly 107 million followers.
She shared a clip showing hats which read “bride” and “groom” and mugs that said “Mr.” and “Mrs.”
“Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10•21•19,” the caption read, in what appeared to be her new legal name and the date she made it official with boyfriend Kenneth Petty.
It seemed the newly married couple had deliberately kept the wedding ceremony out of public eye as it was largely unreported in several media platforms until her post on Tuesday.
Minaj recently announced her retirement from the music scene to pursue family life.
“I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” she had written.
In June, she had also revealed plans to marry Kenneth Petty saying they had obtained a marriage license.
Nicki and Kenneth were at the marriage registry back in August 2019 where she agreed to change her name from Onika Tanya Maraj to Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty.
It will be recalled that the 36-year-old singer and the 41 year old music professional, started dating in December 2018.
