The committee saddled with facilitating the funeral of deceased actress Moji Olaiya says while it intends to bury her in Nigeria, Ayo Fayose, Ekiti state governor, is yet to intervene

In a statement released on Saturday, the committee said it made a verbal appeal for support but that Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Ekiti state governor, had directed them to make an official request which the committee said it was yet to make.

According the committee, it was their decision to have the corpse of Moji brought back to Nigeria for a befitting burial and so that her 2months old baby will be re-united with her family.

“Late Moji Olaiya is an indigene and a cultural ambassador of Ekiti state. Consequently the state government was informed and a verbal appeal for support via the senior media assistant to the governor, Mr Lere Olayinka and as at 2am on Saturday he directed the committee to make official request. The said request is yet to be made.”

Kayode Salako, husband to one of the committee members, Foluke Salako took to his instgram page to reveal the conversation that played out when the Ekiti State governor was called upon for help

Committee: Your Excellency, Moji Olaiya is dead and as an ambassador of your state, we would appreciate your support to fly her corpse back to Nigeria for a befitting burial.

Governor: Who is Moji?! I don’t know any Moji. Please, stop disturbing my phone!

Kayode went on to reveal that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu when approached decided to help out.

Recall that Moji Olaiya 42, died on Wednesday last week in Canada following cardiac arrest, two months after she gave birth to her second daughter. She died almost exactly two years after her younger brother, Abidemi Olaiya, passed on.
