The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning headed by Zainab Ahmed is disowning the COVID-19 donor list currently in circulation.

The purported list with reference number FMF/HMF/EFCC/S-EFFE-REC/2020/1 dated March 28th 2020 with title, ‘Donations So Far For The Fight Against COVID-19 In Nigeria’ mentioned high profile names such as Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Atiku Abubakar, Tuface Idibia, NNPC, Access Bank, Jim Ovia, Segun Agbaje among several others. The letter urged Nigerians to give towards the COVID-19 cause, no matter how little.

In a signed statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Communication to the honourable minister, Yunusa Tank Abdullahi, the Ministry is refuting the said donor list saying it is the handwork of fraudsters impersonating the ministry in an attempt to defraud the unsuspecting public.

The ministry is therefore calling on all Nigerians, especially members of the social media community to disregard the list as it has not put out a list nor asked for donations of any kind. It urged Nigerians not to transact any business with the impostors as doing so would be at their own risk and the ministry would not be liable for any fraudulent transaction being peddled in its name.
