One of the biggest pillars of the Nigerian auto industry, Chief Michael Ade Ojo, known in various quarters as Elizade or Mr. Toyota, clocked 80 years on June 14, 2018 and for all that he has achieved over the years, he in conjunction with members of his family decided to throw a lavish 80th birthday party to celebrate the landmark achievement. A thanksgiving service was held at Archbishop Vinning Memorial Church, Off Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA Ikeja followed by a reception at 10th Degree Event Centre, Oregun, Ikeja where the crème of high society and the czars of business and industry alike were in attendance.
Recall that a few months ago, April to be precise, Chief Michael Ade Ojo had announced his intention to step down from day-to-day running of Toyota Nigeria Limited, once he clocks 80 in June. The wealthy businessman from Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, plans to leave the piloting of the Toyota ship to his son and the current Managing Director, Kunle Ojo. This will bring to a close more than four decades of stellar leadership in which time, Michael Ade-Ojo single-handedly made the Toyota brand the most sought after car brand in Nigeria.
Toyota Nigeria Limited or Elizade as it is fondly known oversees an expansive conglomerate which consists of Toyota Nigeria, RT Briscoe Nigeria, Classic Motors, Crow Motors Nigeria, Elizade Auto Land and Elizade University. He is also on the board of SMT Nigeria Limited, the official distributors of Mack and Volvo trucks in the country.
