Mel B and Stephen Belafonte have reportedly struck a deal to settle their lengthy and acrimonious divorce battle. The pair according to TMZ have come to an agreement over custody of their daughter Madison, six, and have vowed to destroy any ‘compromising videos’ from their relationship. The alleged truce, which still needs to be signed off by a judge, comes soon after the pair settled the domestic violence part of their bitter split.
The estranged pair will share custody of their daughter Madison, and arrange a schedule for physical care between them, but neither will pay child support. However Stephen, 42, will get spousal support for the next three years although the amount remains unknown for legal purposes.
The pair have also reportedly agreed to give Stephen access to the family home, in order to collect his personal belongings, before they sell the property and divide the profits equally. Additionally, Stephen has agreed to destroy ‘any compromising videos’ or sex tapes of the former Spice Girl who accused her ex of secretly filming her and threatening to release the footage in a bid to ruin her career, in court papers earlier this year.
The agreement comes after Stephen claimed Mel was withholding access to his step-daughter 10 year old Angel, who is Eddie Murphy’s biological daughter. Just days after the Spice Girl settled her domestic violence case against him and lifted his restraining order, Stephen revealed he plans to take his ex back to court. It was first reported in April that Stephen was ‘fighting to maintain contact’ with step-daughter Angel Iris, Mel’s daughter with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy.
Belafonte hopes to win visitation rights with the ten-year old, who was born two months before he married Mel B in Las Vegas. Belafonte believes Murphy, 56, has played a limited role in Angel’s life while he has acted as the child’s stepfather, sharing parental responsibilities with Mel throughout their decade long marriage.
Mel and Belafonte, both 42, married in 2007 but the singer filed for divorce in March this year citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ and claimed domestic abuse. Mel is also mother to daughter Phoenix, 18, with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar, whilst Belafonte has daughter Giselle, 12, with ex Nicole Contreras.
