The primaries for different political parties which held at various times between last week and Tuesday April 8, have produced the candidates for the six political parties vying for the number one seat in Anambra State.
While five of them are male, only one of the candidates is female. She is Chioma Ifemeludike. She was elected as the candidate for the African Action Congress, AAC, after the party’s primary election on Tuesday. She was unanimously elected through a voice vote by members of the congress
In her acceptance speech, Ifemeludike promised not to disappoint the trust bestowed on her by party supporters. She said the party would ensure that the people of Anambra particularly women, children, and youths, are empowered to become better citizens.
“As a woman, I appreciate our party leadership, the National Working Committee (NWC), party delegates and everyone who voted, supported and believes in my strength and determination to perform excellently during the campaign and eventually winning the Anambra state 2025 Governorship Elections. Ndi Anambra the time is NOW! Let’s make history,” she wrote on her social media.
Oshiokhe Ikpeminoghena, chairman of the election committee, said it is the party’s constitutional responsibility to field a candidate for the election. He added that Ifemeludike fulfilled every necessary step that qualified her to run for the Anambra governorship election.
Who is Chioma Ifemeludike?
But who really is Chioma Ifemeludike and why is she interested in defeating the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in the forth coming elections?
An actress, movie producer and activist, Chioma is one of two Nollywood actresses who confessed to having an amorous affair with popular Nigerian pastor, Apostle Johnson Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry. OFM.
The other actress is Halima Abubakar.
Chioma in a viral video back in 2021 had called out a Nollywood movie producer, Lynda Clem for pimping her to Suleiman.
“True confession. Dear @lyndaclems, I have to tell the world about that hookup you arranged between @johnson_suleman_official and myself on the 20th November 2016 in a hotel at Ikeja. The apostle secretly gave me his number and we had a second meeting at Oriental Hotel, Lagos,” she had captioned the video.
Chioma had said at that time that she was forced to make the confessional video because the memory of the affair, particularly with a married clergyman tormented her and she felt the urgent need to free her soul from that burden.
Both Clem and Suleiman however, denied the allegations with Suleiman reiterating that he is focused on his God-given assignment.
It is unknown at what point Chioma became an activist, a card-carrying member of AAC or began nursing the ambition to become the number one citizen in Anambra State.
The Other Candidates
Jude Ezenwafor, the sole aspirant, secured the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s ticket for the Anambra governorship election.
