There is no stopping in the winning game for Dr Seinye Lulu-Briggs the Ghanaian born widow of late oil mogul and distinguished elder Kalabari statesman, High Chief Dr O.B. Lulu–Briggs, as she keeps adding feather after feather to her cap.

Barely two weeks after she was named African Philanthropist of the Year 2024 at the prestigious African Leadership Magazine (ALM) Persons of the Year Awards, organized by the African Leadership Organization in Casablanca, Morocco, she has been conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) by the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, in recognition of her contributions to the country’s energy sector.

Seinye who is the Chairman/Chief Executive of Moni Pulo Limited, a pioneer indigenous oil exploration and production company, was honoured during the university’s 4th Convocation Ceremony and Awards, which brought together industry leaders, policy makers, and academia.

In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude for the honour and congratulated the graduating classes. She paid tribute to her late husband who was the visionary founder of Moni Pulo Limited and whose pioneering efforts laid a solid foundation for a sustainable oil company in Moni Pulo Limited. As part of Moni Pulo’s commitment to innovation in education, Seinye announced the company’s sponsorship of a smart classroom at FUPRE. In addition to the honorary degree, she also received the 2024 Independent Newspaper Award for Philanthropist of the Year during the Independent Awards 2024 event held at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.

In 2024, she was bestowed with the Special African Business Leadership Commendation Award and also got inducted into the African Business Leadership Council at the House of Lords in the United Kingdom.

In the same year, she was bestowed with a chieftaincy title of ‘Ununwe Gwoduma Emene Ekpeye 1 of Ekpeyeland’ (The Chief that heals Ekpeye people), by His Imperial Majesty, Eze Sir (Ambassador) Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo, PhD, Eze Ekpeye Logbo 111, the Paramount King of Ekpeye Kingdom and his council of chiefs.

An accomplished businesswoman, social investor and philanthropist, Seinye a widow herself understands the plight of widowhood in Nigeria which prompted her to take on the plight of widows and help them rise above victimisation and all forms of persecution. She is also in collaboration with the African Women Lawyers Association, AWLA, to offer free legal service, fully paid for by her husband’s foundation, to support embattled widows in the pursuit of their rights and the protection of their dignity.
