The Lagos State government has issued a statement in connection to breaking in of a warehouse used to store covid-19 palliatives belonging to the the state government in Monkey village, Mazamaza in Amuwo Odofin area of the state by residents.

“The Lagos Government regrets to inform the public that one of our central warehouses in the mazamaza area of Lagos was ransacked today. This ransacked warehouse was one of the central packaging and distribution points for palliatives donated by the private sector coalition, CACOVID, for the most disadvantaged across Lagos and Neighboring states. These palliatives were handed over to the state government on September 22, 2020 and have so far been distributed to the most disadvantaged Lagosians in line with the intervention guidelines until this incident,” the statement said.

CACOVID (Coalition Against COVID-19) launched in March this year, is a private sector-led organisation established to assist the government in combating the coronavirus disease.

A resident of the area said that residents have been trooping into the warehouse since morning.
“People were begging them and they refused, so when they left, they broke into the warehouse. The government stocked food there while people are suffering,” the resident said.
