Lilian Ojibe, a Lagos resident has lost N537,000, all the money she had saved for five years in United Bank for Africa, UBA, in preparation for her tertiary education, to internet fraudsters who posed as customer service representatives of the bank.

Ojibe said that the unfortunate incident would not have happened if the UBA app had not logged her account out when she needed to make a transfer.

She said she searched the Facebook search bar for UBA’s ‘chatting’ customer care after she realised she couldn’t remember her user identity on the UBA mobile app.

“So, when I saw this, I thought it was Leo. I input all of my details, and the next thing that happened was that N537,000 in my account disappeared,” Ojibe revealed.

After all of Ojibe’s money vanished, she contacted UBA in the confusion of the moment, only to learn that she had compromised her details by inputting them into a cloned website resembling the original UBA website.

“Why did the bank allow such fraud? My daily limit is N200,000, but they withdrew N537,000 in three minutes. How did that happen?” she asked.
