Kcee’s manager, Chidozie Dike has issued a statement to explain why legal action is being taken against Harrysong. He said that Kcee sued Harrysong to protect himself from threat to life.

Harrysong had on Wednesday released court papers filed by his former label mate, Kcee, dragging him to court for infringing on his fundamental human rights. Soso Soberekon, a former artiste manager under Five Star Music Record label, was named as a second respondent in the suit.

According to Dike, the legal issue has nothing to do with oppression or intimidation as is being bandied around the media and that regardless of what Harrysong tells the general public to elicit sympathy, he believes that with time, the truth on why Kcee sued Harrysong will be unraveled.

Dike in the statement said that it is on record that certain individuals threatened the life of Kingsley ‘Kcee’ Okonkwo and went on distort his public image. The statement reads in part:

“It is on record that certain personalities threatened the life of one of our recording and performing artiste in the person of Kingsley Okonkwo (KCEE) and have also gone ahead to threaten to distort  his reputable image in the eyes of the right thinking members of the society and more especially his esteemed fans and business associates

“In order to protect his life, image, integrity and reputation, he approached the court of law to seek for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights which he is entitled to as a Nigerian citizen. In addition, he has also sought the Nigerian Police to protect his life and investigate the threat to his life. As a law abiding citizen he did not wish to re-sought to self help reason why he decided to seek a legal solution.”

Kcee also addressed the issue of his dead career as allude to by Harrysong’s manager in a recent interview. Harrysong’s manager had said in an interview that Kcee sued Harrysong because his career was already dead without Harrysong. The vice president of Five Star Music Record label, said that he has been making hit music long before he met his former label mate.

“I won the Star Quest talent hunt music show in 2002 without his (Harrysong) input, we (himself and former partner, Presh) wrote songs to win the contest. Those who were part of it but didn’t win were Asa, Nigga Raw, Klint The Drunk, The Natives, and a lot of other young talents. I won Star and got signed under Kennis Music where I recorded about three albums with them; who was writing my songs then?

“I recorded hit songs. Now Harrysong is gone and I am due to release my album, who wrote the songs on my album for me? I need some credit. Because you bring in one or two inputs does not mean you should look down on anybody, it is wrong. We are all human and I deserve some credit. I have been in this industry for a while,” he said.

Kcee fired warning shots to his former label mate to tread carefully as he had enough evidence to nail him adding that he found it laughable for anyone to say that his career is dead without Harrysong, not after being in the music industry for over a decade. Kcee also claimed that at the time he met Harrysong, Harrysong had no visa on his passport but that his coming on board the record label helped build his self confidence.

“I just hope he would be careful. He needs to be careful. When I met Harrysong, he had no visa on his passport. We gave him his visas. He travelled business class even when he had yet to release any song under Five Star. He started travelling business class locally and internationally just to build self-esteem and confidence. We did all that because we wanted him to live like a king as a Five Star artiste. He travelled on a five star level. He never travelled with his money. He shot all his videos internationally we paid for his video shoots and I can show you all the invoices.”

He went on to say that Harrysong never influenced his sound but rather, the label polished his and made it more acceptable. He was also quick to add that Harrysong is no doubt talented but he needs some guidance.

“Yes I have my own weaknesses and he also has his element. I started as a DJ and I know what the people want and I direct his music. If you ask most of our producers, I changed the direction of his song, ‘Better Pikin’. He sometimes advised in my song; we had a collaborative relationship. When you work as a team, it does not mean you own everybody; you cannot just write somebody off.”
