The Kaduna State House of Assembly has put forth a recommendation for the prosecution of former governor Nasir el-Rufai.

This recommendation is based on allegations of abuse of office and involvement in money laundering totaling N423 billion during his tenure as governor.

It follows an investigation by an ad-hoc committee led by Henry Zacharia.

The report submitted by Zacharia on Wednesday, June 5, revealed that a significant portion of the loans acquired during el-Rufai’s administration were not utilized for their designated purposes. Additionally, the committee found instances where due process was not adhered to in obtaining these loans.

As a result, the committee recommended that the former governor and certain other members of his cabinet be investigated and prosecuted by security and anti-corruption agencies.

Their alleged offenses include abusing their office by awarding contracts without following due process, diverting public funds, and engaging in money laundering activities.

Also, the committee recommended the immediate suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, who also served in the same capacity under El-Rufai’s administration, as well as the chairman of the state universal basic education board.

The committee, established by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, was tasked with examining loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023, during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor of the state.
