One of the biggest comedy movies of the year 2017 and the highest grossing comedy of 2017, Girls Trip is at the middle of a controversy as the voting community of Golden Globes refused to watch ‘Girls Trip’ talkless of nominating it for an award. Jada Pinkett-Smith condemned the award show’s voters, the enigmatic Hollywood Foreign Press Association, for snubbing the movie, saying that they failed to watch it while stressing that the film industry is in dire need of a systemic change.

Jada who starred in the movie also berated the Foreign Press association for one the movie stars, Tiffany Haddish’s absence on Golden Globes ballots, adding that it is the result of a bigger problem in Hollywood. Jada Pinkett-Smith took to twitter to vent her anger.
“I’m not upset about Tiffany Haddish or at ‘Girls Trip’ not getting a nomination. I’m discouraged about the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press wouldn’t even watch the movie,” Pinkett Smith began.

“Girls Trip was one of the most successful films this summer and Tiffany Haddish was hands down the funniest person on screen in 2017 and we couldn’t get eyes on the film or a press conference,” she continued.

Haddish, a breakout star in 2017 thanks to her performance in the movie, was one of the most notable snubs during Monday’s Golden Globes nominations

“How could a nomination not happen and how much more critical acclaim must a movie have to simply get a screening?”

She then urged Hollywood to grow in certain areas in an effort to become a more inclusive place.
“Hollywood has systems in place that must learn to expand its concepts of race, gender equality and inclusion in regard to its perceptions of art across the board.”

Jada also condemned the Globes voters for leaving out another one of the year’s most well-received movies, ‘The Big Sick’ and for categorizing ‘Get Out’, a satire on race, in the comedy genre. Jordan Peele, the director of the critically beloved ‘Get Out’ also didn’t get a nomination for director of the year. The film is up for best comedy or musical film, while its star, Daniel Kaluuya is up for best actor in the genre.
