Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has denied impregnating ex-Big Brother Naija housemate Nengi Rebecca Hampson.
He attributed the circulation of the false news to his political enemies.
The allegation gained traction after netizens pointed accusing fingers at Diri following the revelation that Nengi was pregnant and allegedly for a married state governor who already has four wives.
Nengi is from Bayelsa and was made a Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development to the governor shortly after her exit from the reality show.
Nengi herself has come out clean on social media to debunk the lies.
Reacting to the allegation, Diri expressed shock and dismay as to why people would spread falsehood on a day his administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary.
In a post on his social media handle, his director of new media, Dr Kola Oredipe debunked the allegation, insisting that Nengi has no personal relationship with Diri.
“It is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor.
“This is a distraction and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of the various social media.
“Sadly, while we were inaugurating a brand new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were spreading falsehoods about the governor.
“Governor Diri is a man of honour and dignity,” Oredipe concluded.
