Award-winning singer, Tiwa Savage has narrated how she attempted suicide on two occasions as a teenager due to ceaseless bullying at a high school in London. The singer brought the revelation to light during an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, a media personality, on Bounce Radio.

The crooner, who was 10 at that time, said the bullying was by her fellow blacks from Jamaica. She added that the ugly incident lasted for about four years. Tiwa said she initially thought she was going to London for vacation unaware that her mother had other plans.

“I thought I was going for holiday and I was supposed to go to the Air Force. I had enrolled and shaved my hair, then she (mother) said we have to quickly go to London for a vacation and I was excited and bragged to all my friends,” she said.

“Then we got to London and she said ‘We are staying’ and it was freezing and was not what I expected. When I got to school it was horrible I will never forget. I was teased so bad. They used to call me ‘African girl’, ‘Fufu’, ‘Your food smells’ and so on. It was terrible. It was so bad that I literally tried to kill myself two times. I was really depressed and bullied. They would flush my hair down during lunch break. At some point, I use to have a police escort me to the bus. I wanted to bleach and started growing my hair. It was really terrible.”

This is not the first time the singer would be speaking on some of her ugly experiences abroad. In September, the 40-year-old vocalist had recounted how she had to live in a shelter meant for poor people with drug addiction-related issues in New York due to lack of money.
