Davido has disclosed how he got into trouble and had to leave the country for supporting the #EndSARS campaign.

The singer, whose song FEM was used as an anthem by #EndSARS protesters during the nationwide protests in 2020, opened up on Wednesday, September 29, during a chat on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

Davido stated that he did not record the song thinking the protest was going to happen but was amazed watching his voice become an instrument used to request for change.

He however added that it got him into a lot of trouble.

He told Trevor Noah: “I got into a lot of trouble. I had to actually leave the country. It was that bad. I was re-posting everything that had to do with the campaign. It was amazing to see people come out like that.

“And I will say this: they listened to us. They heard us. They might not have changed anything but they were shook.”

Davido also spoke on different issues, including his recently released third studio album, A Better Time.

One of the highlights of the interview was when Trevor asked him about the correct pronunciation of his name following a debate he had with his friends about the name.

The superstar simply said his name is pronounced differently by different people across the world. He said despite the pronunciation, it doesn’t change the fact that his real name is David.
