A female student, Grace Oshiagwu, 21, was been reportedly raped and murdered at Idi-Ori, Shasha area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, by unknown assailant(s) on Saturday.
Oshiagwu, daughter of an Ibadan-based pastor, was a National Diploma 1 student at the Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki.
It was learnt that the deceased was in the church with her brother in company with other members of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oluwatedo, Idi Ori, Ibadan, learning how to play guitar around 3pm before being murdered.
A source said that at some point, the young lady left the place where she was learning how to play the musical instrument to take a rest at the mission house. After some time when her brother went to check on her at the mission house, he saw her lifeless body in a pool of blood.
It was gathered that the deceased’s mother had been dead some years ago while her father, was not at home at the time of the incident.
The source added that policemen from Akinyele Division, Ibadan had visited the scene and went away with some exhibits that were recovered from the scene. The Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident, however, said it would be too early to say whether the deceased was raped or not until investigation is conducted into the matter.
Fadeyi said, “Oshiagwu is a 21-year-old lady. She was said to have been killed in a church building but one cannot hastily say she was raped. Investigation is ongoing on the incident. The police has commenced investigation into the incident. What we can substantiate now is that she was attacked this afternoon and she was injured her and she was found dead at the Kara axis, Shasha area. Police has commenced investigation.
“Investigation will lead us to the immediate and revmote causes of the death of the deceased. Police Tactical teams are on the trail of the assailant(s). While efforts are intensified, we want to continue to solicit for credible information from members of the communities around the area and the general public to unravel the misery behind these dastard killings.”
