The Asokoro residence of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, in Abuja went up in flames on Sunday evening. Security personnel and some first responders on the ground at the time of the incident were able to put off the fire which was caused by a suspected electrical fault in the minister’s room. However, the minister was not at home when the fire broke out.

Luckily according to eye witness report, it was not a serious incident. But there has been an increased number of armed mobile security officers along the road leading to the minister’s home making it difficult for just anyone to have access into the area.

Kachikwu has been in the news in the past weeks following a petition he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari against the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, which was leaked to the public.
