The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has replaced its suspended national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, with one of his deputies, Umar Damagum.

Dele Ologunagba, the PDP spokesperson, made this known in Abuja on Tuesday, March 28.

This development comes less than 24 hours after a federal high court sitting in Makurdi, Benue state, ordered Ayu to step aside following a suit filed by his ward, Igyorov council ward in Gboko local government area of the state.

The ward executive committee suspended Ayu for engaging in anti-party activities and failing to pay his membership dues.

Meanwhile, Damagum will occupy the seat in an acting capacity pending the determination of the substantive suit restraining Ayu from parading himself as national chairman of the main opposition party.
Until his appointment, Damagum was the deputy national chairman (north) of the PDP.
