The C.E.O of Filmhouse Cinemas and FilmOne Production/Distribution, Kene Mkparu, recently clocked 50 and to celebrate the milestone, his family threw him a lavish birthday party that had several of his friends, business associates and several actors in attendance to celebrate the man who is revolutionizing the cinema business in Nigeria. Many were however shocked to learn that he was celebrating his 50th as he looks nowhere near it. Happy that he made it through to midlife, he ensured he was personally involved in most of the performances that spiced up his birthday party. At the party, the bespectacled businessman danced his heart out like he was in a competition to win a prize. The reason for all that happiness can easily be traced to how well he has done for himself in just six years. His company currently runs the biggest cinema chain in West Africa and this he achieved under three years. With a chain of 12 cinemas, he is planning a strategic roll-out plan to reach 25 cinemas by 2018. In Aug 2016, he launched the first IMAX cinema in West Africa, in Lekki Lagos, Nigeria, complete with Signature Dine-in cinema offerings. Prior to this, Kene who has over 25 years cinema and film industry experience, set up and launched Genesis Deluxe Cinemas Nigeria as its then Managing Director. He was also MD/CEO of FilmAFRICA UK a production and distribution company that specialized in releasing African films in mainstream UK cinemas. At a point he was the General Manager of Odeon cinemas, UK.
