The Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, has urged singer, Azeez Fashola, more popularly known as Naira Marley to desist from embarking on his peaceful protest. Dare said the grievances faced by Nigerians are being addressed, hence no need to embark on peaceful protest.
Naira Marley had called for a peaceful protest over the illegality of some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. The singer had vowed to lead the protest against injustice meted out on Nigerians. The singer had revealed that some officers of SARs would also be joining in to protest against the illegality of their colleagues.
Naira Marley had urged Nigerians to join the peaceful protest that is to take-off from Lagos Island.

Advising the singer against the protest, the minister said the federal government was determined to tackle the issue. In a tweet, the minister wrote: “I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government. As the Minister in charge of youth I know this is an issue that must be tackled. Government is doing just that.”
Not pleased with the response of the minister, Naira Marley fired back, saying the government has made the promise to curb the highhandedness of SARS operatives four times. He said the youth have no assurance that the latest directive will be enforced as he questioned if the minister really cares about Nigerian youth.
“Ekale Sir. We have heard this before. Four times. Why will this time be different? Do you really care about the youth? Many of us have been killed and they harass us everyday. What is the assurance this time? We need assurance.”
Naira Marley would later cancel the protest after the Nigeria Police Force reached out to him.
“We won’t be protesting anymore because there’s a lot of changes being made right now. As a Marlian we will give them a week to see the changes and if there’s no changes we will start a mass protest.”
