There is palpable fear in Kano State following the death of hundreds of people including 13 prominent people, some from the Coronavirus, others from an unknown disease.

It should be noted that the state is currently on lockdown, imposed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Prominent persons like the former Managing Director (MD) of the Defunct Continental Merchant Bank, 80 year old Ibrahim Ayagi, who had been ill for sometime; professor of physiology, Aliyu Umar Dikko; the Regional Manager of First Bank in Kano, Abdullahi Lawal; Musa Ahmad Tijjani, Editor of Triumph newspapers; Adamu Dal, ex-Chairman State Civil Service Commission  have all lost their lives in Kano State

Others are Nasiru Maikano Bichi; Musa Umar Gwarzo; Ustaz Dahiru Rabiu, ex-Grand Khadi; Salisu Lado; Nene Umma; Garba Sarki Fagge; Salisu Lado; Shamsiyya Mustapha; Nene Umma; Garba Sarki Fagge; Nasiru Maikano Bichi; Rabiu Dambatta; Kabiru Ibrahim Bayero and mother of businessman, Ado Gwanja.

The other high-profile personalities include, Alhaji Garba Sarki Fagge, Alh. Adam Iliyasu Dal, a former Chairman of the Kano State Civil Service Commission; Nasiru Maikano Bichi, secretary students affairs of North Western University.

In the case of Abdullahi Lawal, the First Bank Regional Manager in Kano, he died from a suspected case of COVID-19. Family sources said immediately the banker took ill, he was first put on admission at a private clinic from where he was referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. He suffered high fever, intermittent cough, and respiratory hiccups and did not receive adequate medical care, before he gave up the ghost.

In an audio recording, the mother-in-law to the banker alleged that the negligence of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Kano, led to the death of her son-in-law, as she cried out that her daughter and grandchildren be taken in for tests to confirm if they have contracted the dreaded COVID-19.
