#EndSARS protesters are currently inside Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The protesters in their hundreds are preventing movement in and out of the busiest airport in the country.
Since the protest began 11 days ago, this is the first time that the protesters would disrupt activities inside the airport. They have been blocking roads around the airport, worsening the traffic logjam in Ikeja and its environs but this is the first time that protesters will march into the airport.
Many passengers were stranded inside one of the halls at the airport.
In a social media post, one of the protesters said they decided to invade the international wing of the airport after security operatives chased them away from the local wing. The protesters are demanding an end to police brutality and improved welfare.
#EndSARS protesters demonstrating against police brutality and extrajudicial killings in the country on Monday took to the Lagos airport to ground activities to a standstill. As early as 9am, several blockades were mounted at different locations from the local airport down to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, forcing several passengers to opt for alternative means of transportation.
Singing solidarity songs with placards, the protesters marched towards the entrance of the MMIA where they expressed their grievances.
A worker with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria who pleaded anonymity said the protesters did not break into the airport. The source said, “They came but they didn’t block anybody. They just came to register their presence at the end of the day and the airforce officer escorted them to the tollgate.
“Right now, they have gone back to the tollgate but they didn’t disturb any passenger from accessing the terminal.
