After 12 years of back and forth bickering, the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Actors Guild of Nigeria at the National level, has finally come to an end as the two biggest rivals, Ibinabo Fibresinma and Emeka Ike, who were both laying claim to the presidency of the Guild, have finally settled their age long differences.
Addressing the media recently, both Ibinabo Fibresinma and Emeka Ike said that peace was now very necessary as their division has stagnated the Guild and has also rubbed off on the nation’s movie industry. The crisis was resolved at the 2017 Peace and Reconciliation Conference held in Enugu, which had representatives from 29 AGN state chapters in attendance
Ibinabo said, “The division was not about me, Ibinabo, but about the Board Of Trustees (BOT) of the Guild whose tenure had longed expired and refused to allow fresh ideas and innovations to foster. I said no because Nollywood is a global phenomenon and the idea of life BOT will not just work.
Emeka also added, “As you know this agitation has cost me a lot but today because of the youths, I have embraced peace so we can build the future generation together. This reconciliation is for the young actors in Nollywood.
Ibinabo Fibresinma also disclosed that her immediate plan was to take out her appeal in the court and call for a proper joint congress of both factions where the process to conduct a national free, fair and transparent election that will herald a new dawn in Actors Guild of Nigeria would be held.
For the past 12 years, the AGN had been embroiled in a leadership crisis, resulting in the dismissal of its National President, Ibinabo Fibresinma in 2016 by a Federal High Court. Emeka and Ibinabo have both been battling for the leadership of the guild since 2005, after the tenure of Ejike Asiegbu as National President of the guild expired.
