The Police Command, FCT, on Thursday quizzed embattled Senator Elisha Abbo who assaulted a nursing mother at an adult toy shop in Abuja in March. Elisha Abbo, who went to the command in response to the police summons, was taken into custody as part of investigations into the incident.

It could not be ascertained whether the Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, was released after the interrogation.

Asked if the suspect would be granted bail before nightfall, the FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma said, “We have questioned him and he is in our custody, but I can’t say if he would be released today (Thursday). It depends on the extent of our investigations; it depends on our discretion and how far we have gone with the investigation.”

Ciroma also explained that the assault victim had been questioned by detectives.

Following the outrage over a trending video of the young lawmaker assaulting his victim, the IG had directed the CP to carry out an investigation into the incident. The IG also asked Ciroma to undertake a forensic investigation of the footage which showed Abbo repeatedly slapping his victim over what appeared to be a minor disagreement while a police officer looked on.

The probe was also expected to unravel why the policeman who was at the scene failed to prevent the assault on the nursing mother.
