Senator Dino Melaye may just make history as the first serving Senator to be recalled from the hallowed chambers because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received signatures from the electorates in Kogi West Senatorial District, asking for his recall.

Six bags, which contained the signatures of 52.3 percent of the electorates from the zone and other petitions, have been submitted to the Commission in Abuja today. The commission is expected to verify the names on the register along with the recall signatories because the number of signatories ad that of actual voters differ.

While 188, 588 people signed the petition for his recall, only 111,534 actually voted in the elections. The collation of signatures of voters was successfully carried out on June 17.

The Senator and his state governor have been at each other’s throat over issues of political interest. But the rift ossified when Melaye called for the resignation of the governor for allegedly doing double voter registration. Also he linked his state governor to alleged attempts on his life, while the governor described him as unfit to be a lawmaker.
